Collaborations
Researchers at MSEL collaborate with a number of scientists and conservation groups. Here’s a selection of current collaborators though it’s not exhaustive.
Prof Bob Steneck, University of Maine.
Bob and Pete, together with Susie Arnold, Rob van Woesik, and Al Edwards, collaborate on the effects of herbivory on coral recruitment and algal dynamics. Projects have been carried out in Bonaire, Belize, Palau and French Polynesia. Captain Bob holds the world record for having drilled more holes into reefs than any other diver…all in the name of science, of course. http://www.umaine.edu/marine/people/profile/robert_steneck |
Dr Mehdi Adjeroud, IRD New Caledonia
Mehdi is a coral reef ecologist that has recently moved to New Caledonia. We are collaborating on the effects of herbivory on recruitment in French Polynesia (with Bob Steneck). www.coreus.ird.fr/equipe_fr_ADJEROUD.htm |
Professor Claire Paris, University of Miami
Claire Paris is a leading biological oceanographer based at the University of Miami and we work collaboratively to model the effects of climate change on the dispersal of coral reef organisms. Our work has looked at the impacts of marine reserves in the Bahamas, the design of marine reserve networks, and is now focusing on metapopulation models. www.rsmas.miami.edu/personal/cparis/

Dr Yimnang Golbuu, Palau International Coral Reef Center
Yim collaborates with Pete Mumby and Sonia Bejarano in a project funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation that evaluates the impact of fishing on herbivores in Micronesia. Yim is a senior researcher at the Palau International Coral Reef Center and works on a variety of issues including coral recruitment and ecology. www.picrc.org |
